Shame

The relationship between shame and responsible behavior focuses on the relationship between self-esteem and choice and assumes that my activities may be planned and I have chosen as part active exercise of practical reason. The greek philosopher Aristotle defines shame as "a pain or disturbance concerning those sins that seem to lead to contempt." There will be ashamed of so most people that is taken into account. "In general," writes Aristotle, "we are ashamed before those for whom we respect," not only in front of friends but also with strangers, especially if we have violated the law. Now, although it could be argued that shame and efforts to avoid it could be central to the ethical and political thought of ancient Greece but not in the contemporary West, the Aristotelian considerations play actually very shareable the modern mind.
